Photography, what is it to me?

Photography is a journey, a discovery of places, things and people expressed in light and colour. A journey that neither tells you where you are going or what you may see next.  It is exciting, absorbing and frustrating all at the same time and it is never finished; there is always another picture to take, another angle to capture and another story to tell.

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense and is thereby a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”

― Ansel Adams

“Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.” – Imogen Cunningham

Photography, my history?

For as long as I can remember I have owned a camera, my first was a point and shoot film camera, an Olympus given to me by my father.  I spent my time taking snap shots whenever something interesting intrigued me or the mood presented.  I began in South Africa, capturing everything and anything, but really it was the wildlife that inspired me, the animals caught my eye and I wanted to remember them.

From there I moved into travel photography, capturing the moments and the places as I moved around the globe.

Since those early days I have had photographs and articles printed in the media, on the front page too; I have sold photographs to Bowen City Council for their 50th Birthday Celebratory book, sold photographs of traditional dhow sailing to Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club and private owners; been pubished in numerous calendars and coffee table books and I have had an three exhibitions in Abu Dhabi and been privately commissioned to take portraits.

Lately I have taken to teaching beginners photography, which to my surprise I have thoroughly enjoyed.  I plan to continue this where-ever I may call home across the globe.

In the future, I hope to expand this into more exhibitions, have my photos displayed in prominant hotel chains and ultimately I would love to be a professional travel photographer.  I hunger to meet the people and see the sites of this wonderful world. I hope I can do them justice and tell their stories.
