Nepal, the 2015 Earthquake

I was in Nepal when the devastating earthquake hit.

It was my last day and I was waiting to go to the airport to fly home. I had great memories and photos of people who smiled easily.

Then the quake hit and I will never forget the generosity of a people that had lost everything! If you click the radio interview below you will hear the radio interview the day after I got back home.

These are my photos taken before the quake, I do not know how many of these kind people survived that day, I suspect most did not.

As a group we decided to give back to the people that were so kind to us. We held an exhibition where all funds raised were sent back to those individuals who cared for us.

I choose to remember the Nepalese people for their kindness in adversity, which many nations could learn from!

I have singled out this photo as it is rather special to me, not because it is good but because it made my heart stop.

I noticed this lady, sitting on a pile of logs, rocking and repeating the same phrase over and over again. I asked if I could take her picture, she nodded but did not stop her recital. Our guide came by later, and I asked him what she was saying over and over again. He listened and turned round to me with big eyes.

“She wants to die but God has forgotten her!”

While I was standing in the rubble and thong of people who had survived the earthquake, my mind wonder to the old lady on the logs.

“I wonder if God has remembered her?”
